Why an Urbania for this route
Courtallam is a season rather than a place, and that is the single most useful thing to understand before booking. The falls are fed by the southwest monsoon, which waters the Kerala side of the ghats, so they run hardest between June and September while the rest of Tamil Nadu is dry. Arrive in March and you will find a fraction of the water and wonder what the fuss was about.
It is also a bathing place rather than a viewing place, which surprises groups who have seen photographs and expect a viewpoint. People stand under the falls. There are changing facilities and in season they are crowded and basic. If your group intends to bathe, that is the trip. If it does not, be honest with us at booking, because there is not a great deal else to do.
The drive itself is three hours of flat, easy road with no ghat sections. The falls are spread across a few kilometres of foothill road rather than being one place, so there is local driving between them once you arrive, which is the main argument for having the vehicle.
Which Urbania should you choose?
Any of the three manages the roads. The 13 seater is our default because parking at the main falls fills heavily in season and sits some distance from the bathing areas, so the shorter vehicle places more easily on a busy morning.
Luggage is light for this trip — bring what you need for bathing rather than for a hill stay. That makes it one of the few routes where a 10 seater is genuinely comfortable for a small group.

June to September is the season and the whole reason to come — the falls run on the southwest monsoon rather than the northeast one that waters the rest of Tamil Nadu. Outside those months the flow drops sharply and by March several of the falls are little more than a trickle.
Getting around at Courtallam
Keep the vehicle. The falls are spread across a few kilometres and the group will want to move between them, and the walk from parking to the bathing areas is a fair one in season.
Tenkasi is the practical base and its Kasi Viswanathar temple is worth an hour if the timing suits. Beyond the falls and the temples there is honestly not a great deal here, which is why most groups treat Courtallam as one or two nights rather than a longer stay.

Is it very crowded?
In season, extremely — it is one of the most popular places in south Tamil Nadu between June and September. Parking fills before mid-morning and the bathing areas are busy. An early start is the only real remedy.
How many falls are there?
Several spread across a few kilometres of foothill road — the Main Falls, Five Falls, Old Courtallam and Tiger Falls among them. They are not one place, which is why having the vehicle to move between them matters.
Which seater should we take?
Any of the three for the road. We default to the 13 seater because parking fills in season and sits some distance from the bathing areas. Luggage is light, so a 10 seater is genuinely comfortable for a small group here.
How many days do we need?
One or two nights. Tenkasi is the practical base. Beyond the falls and the temples there is honestly not much, so a longer stay is only worth it if bathing every morning is the point.
Can we combine it with Kanyakumari or Rameswaram?

Is it safe to bathe?
In normal flow, and it is what the place is for. During very heavy monsoon the flow can become dangerous and the falls are closed at those times. Follow the local restrictions rather than the crowd, and do not swim in the pools below.
What should we bring?
Change of clothes, footwear you can get wet, and something to carry wet things back in. The changing facilities are basic and crowded in season, so most groups change at their accommodation where they can.
Is there anything else nearby?
The Thirukutralanathar temple at the falls and the Kasi Viswanathar temple at Tenkasi are both worth an hour. Beyond that the honest answer is that Courtallam is the falls, which is why we suggest one or two nights rather than more.
