Group Tour Urbania Hire from Coimbatore
Family and friends leaving Coimbatore in one vehicle, for hill country that starts almost immediately.
Coimbatore is the shortest approach to the Nilgiris of any city in the south, which makes it a good base for a short group holiday — you are in hill country within a couple of hours rather than after a full day of driving. That closeness is also what catches groups out, because the drive is short and the climb is not, and an itinerary built from the kilometres will have you arriving well after you expected.
The three main options are quite different trips. Ooty and Coonoor together make an easy first outing on a busy, well-surfaced road. Valparai is the connoisseur's choice — a harder climb through a reserve, far quieter at the top, and the one where vehicle size genuinely matters. Munnar means crossing into Kerala and a longer day, and it rewards two nights rather than one. We will tell you which suits the group you describe rather than the one with the biggest quote attached.
For mixed groups the climbs are the thing to plan around. All three ascents are sustained hairpin sequences, and the rearmost row of a long Urbania is where travel sickness announces itself. Claim a middle row for anyone prone to it and tell us in advance, because on a Valparai itinerary it may be a reason to take the thirteen seater rather than the seventeen even where the larger vehicle would seat everyone comfortably.
Two practical points. Stops need planning on a long vehicle, since you cannot pull a seventeen seater onto a verge on a ghat road and stopping inside a reserve is not permitted in any case, so we identify halts that can take it before setting off. And luggage is the usual quiet limitation — a hill trip generates more than the headcount suggests once someone brings warm clothes and a cooler, and a full thirteen seater with twelve suitcases is at its limit rather than comfortably loaded. Give us the bag count and we will advise honestly.
The case for one vehicle over a convoy holds here as everywhere, and slightly more strongly on hill roads. Three cars on a hairpin climb means three sets of decisions about when to stop, a group that arrives in pieces, and at least one person who spends the holiday concentrating on the road instead of looking at it. One Urbania is generally cheaper per head once fuel, tolls and parking stop being paid three times over, and everybody arrives together.
